ABOUT
Dream Chambers is the name of New Zealand born, award winning singer-songwriter Jess Chambers' ethereal electronic project. From a background in delicately orchestrated folk music she has embarked on a transformative journey into the world of music technology.
Her current live performance is intimate yet expansive. Actualized through a mass of synthesizers, sequencers and vocal processors to create layer upon layer of melody. Heavy sub bass paired with crystalline granular synthesis surrounds soft and urgent vocals while shimmering arps crescendo towards a cappella harmonies.
ARTISTIC INTENTION
“Through discovering and exploring new combinations of sound I endeavor to resolve a my experiences of dissonance within myself as I interact with others and the harshness of the social systems that we live in. Through refusing to subscribe to pre-existing genres and musical practices I push myself to live and think outside of societal norms and resist pressure to conform.
This resistance and dissonance are fueled by the daily monotony of personal hustle, feelings of isolation, heartache, and painful memories which can be overwhelming at times when combined with complex social issues such as systematic racism, sexism, and classism, exploitative capitalism and the rampant consumerism that is devastating our environment. All ills that appear to stem from uncontrollable tendencies in our human nature towards fear, domination, and greed.
In the face of this, I seek transcendence through music which offers the sensation of total expansiveness, beauty, and connectedness.
I nurture the belief that if there are new sounds and new expressions of music to be discovered that hope remains. Sound to me is symbolic of an intangible source of wisdom, of our potential as a species to evolve our collective consciousness towards harmony, that out there somewhere in the ether of life are currently unimagined solutions to our personal and societal problems. That if we are willing to reach beyond the familiar in a spirit of exploration, possibilities will manifest that can truly make a better world for all of us.
This excitement and search for harmony in the midst of seeming chaos are what drives my creativity. Through sound, I express the intensity of being alive and by adding harmonic and lyrical resolution to my compositions I construct and search for a place of comfort and hope. It’s my way of saying to myself “You are not alone in this painful and beautiful experience called life and you have the power to transform your suffering”. Through live performance and recordings, I offer this sentiment to you also.
I endeavor to make music that is a balm for a troubled heart and mind and that holds a space of stillness in a tumultuous reality.”
